Tips for Your Nighttime Skincare Routine
After a long day and the toll it takes on your skin, night time offers your skin the opportunity to repair itself so that your skin stays healthy and you can keep aging at bay. Here are some tips to help with your nighttime skincare routine.
Take off your make – up and cleanse
Prepare to go to bed by taking off all your make – up and indulge in a cleanse to get rid of dirt and grime from your skin once you’ve removed all the make – up using either an oil cleanser or water-based cleanser.
Exfoliate and tone your skin
Exfoliating your skin twice or thrice each week by getting rid of dead cells on its surface and removing blackheads from your nose can leave you with supple skin. You can even restore your skin’s pH balance by dabbing a toner on it using a cotton ball. Be sure to use a toner suitable for your skin. For example, dry/normal skin is negatively impacted by alcohol-based toners, so choose what’s right for your skin type.
It’s imperative to moisturize your skin after cleansing as this can remove essential oils along with dirt/grime that it removes. For oily skin, a water-based moisturizer would work best, so choose one suited for your skin type. Make it a point to moisturize areas of the body that tend to be mostly dry at night – hands, elbows, heels, feet, and knees.
Eye and lip care
Avoid getting puffy eyes / dark circles by using an eye cream for the skin around your eyes and use a lip balm to soothe dry, chapped, or cracked lips after washing them with warm water and dabbing them dry with a soft cloth.
Get enough sleep, preferably on your back
A good night’s rest cannot be ignored if you want to see good results from your nighttime skincare routine. You should also avoid having caffeinated drinks before going to bed as these may interfere with your sleep timings. Sleeping on your back is also another way to ensure you don’t develop wrinkles from your face being pushed into your pillow.
